چکیده
Bioremediation through the injection of electron donors and bacterial cultures is effective at treating chlorinated solvent contamination. However, it has had limited application in low permeability zones where amendments cannot be delivered successfully. This field-scale study investigated electrokinetics to enhance delivery lactate a clay site contaminated with solvents. Groundwater soil samples were collected before, during for 1 year after 71-day field test analyzed wide suite chemical biological parameters. Lactate was successfully all monitoring locations. emplacement resulted stimulation populations, specifically within phylum Firmicutes, which contains fermenters strict anaerobes. likely led biodegradation, as trial significant decreases both aqueous phase concentrations. Contaminant also partially attributable dilution, given evidence some advective flux. research provides that electrokinetically-enhanced bioremediation potential treatment strategy strata.

Assessment of natural or enhanced in situ bioremediation at a chlorinated solvent-contaminated aquifer in Italy: a microcosm study.
A microcosm study was used to assess the potential for in situ natural or enhanced bioremediation at a chloroethane- (i.e., tetrachloroethane, TeCA) and chloroethene-contaminated (i.e., tetrachloroethene, PCE; trichloroethene, TCE) groundwater in Northern Italy. All the live microcosms were positive for dechlorination, indicating the presence of an active native dechlorinating population in the...

A culture-independent molecular phylogenetic approach was used to survey constituents of microbial communities associated with an aquifer contaminated with hydrocarbons (mainly jet fuel) and chlorinated solvents undergoing intrinsic bioremediation. Samples were obtained from three redox zones: methanogenic, methanogenic-sulfate reducing, and iron or sulfate reducing. Small-subunit rRNA genes we...
متن کاملEcogenomics of microbial communities in bioremediation of chlorinated contaminated sites
Organohalide compounds such as chloroethenes, chloroethanes, and polychlorinated benzenes are among the most significant pollutants in the world. These compounds are often found in contamination plumes with other pollutants such as solvents, pesticides, and petroleum derivatives. Microbial bioremediation of contaminated sites, has become commonplace whereby key processes involved in bioremediat...
متن کاملpH control for enhanced reductive bioremediation of chlorinated solvent source zones.
Enhanced reductive dehalogenation is an attractive treatment technology for in situ remediation of chlorinated solvent DNAPL source areas. Reductive dehalogenation is an acid-forming process with hydrochloric acid and also organic acids from fermentation of the electron donors typically building up in the source zone during remediation. This can lead to groundwater acidification thereby inhibit...
متن کاملEnhanced anoxic bioremediation of PAHs-contaminated sediment.
In this study, the biodegradation of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in marine sediment was investigated under three different anoxic conditions, i.e. sulfate-only, nitrate-only and mixed nitrate/sulfate as electron acceptors. All two-, three- and four-ring PAHs showed significant biodegradation with the removal efficiencies ranging from 42% to 77%, while five- and six-ring PAHs show...
